Germany’s Education Standards and University Admission Requirements

In Germany, students generally need a recognised qualification equivalent to completing Grade 12 before entering the first year of an undergraduate programme.

Students who have completed only Grade 10 or GCSE 'O' Level may need to take one of the following pathways:

• Attend a Studienkolleg: A university preparatory programme taught in German, generally requiring B2-level German.
• Complete A levels: These may provide a pathway to university admission.
• Successfully complete two years of university study: This may provide eligibility for university admission in Germany.
• Polytechnic or any diploma holder: This may provide eligibility for university admission in Germany.

Is the GED accepted?
Germany generally does not recognise the GED as a qualification for university admission.
